our history

Dick Stone Meats is a large wholesale and food service organisation specialising in portion cut meats. Located in Regents Park Sydney, our company is Australian owned and operated and commenced operations over 100 years ago with a small butcher shop in Rockdale in 1887. The business has remained in the Stone family for six generations.

Dick Stone was a pioneer of the introduction of refrigeration within in their butcher shops. The company was also the first cattle grower to introduce grain fed beef into Australia under the banner of Oakleigh Holdings at Canowindra, in central West NSW.

The company has always remained at the forefront of innovation and technology with processing and packaging.

Overtime we developed into one of Sydney’s largest food service operators, supplying meat, poultry and game products to some of the finest restaurants, hotels, clubs and institutions.

Gary Stone

Gary started in the meat industry in 1969. Throughout the 1970’s and early 1980’s Gary gained experience by running boning rooms, smallgoods factories and a carton meat trading depot with successful ventures owning butcher shops and a sausage factory.

In 1987 Gary started Melrina wholesale meat company, operating a small boning room in Botany employing five people. Combining his boning operation and meat trading experience Gary has developed his business to where it is today.

The group now comprises carton meat trading depots in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and of course Dick Stone.

Our Facility


A milestone for Dick Stone food service was the commissioning of our new state of the art processing and cold storage facility. Completed in November 2007, our new facility houses a boning room, food service operation with portion control area as well as 300 pallet chiller, 900 pallet freezer and blast freeze area of around 80 pallets. This cold storage capacity allows up take advantage of seasonal conditions and market fluctuations, in turn offering you weekly specials and pallet buys.

Our facility has gained an A+ accreditation by AUSMEAT for quality assurance and is licensed by NSW Food Authority who externally audits our HACCP programme.
